The Open Source Project

Rocket Workshops
Regular rocket workshops are held at the South African Astronomical Observatory where student members are able to build a rocket, learn more about model rocketry and meet like-minded people. Read more...
Rocket Launch
SASA-UCT recently had a rocket launch out near the Tankwa Karoo and managed to set a few new records. The maiden flight of the Altair rocket reached a peak altitude of 2.6km AGL and a top speed of 1060km/h. Five other rockets were launched too, and video's of them have been uploaded. Read more...
Public talks at the Observatory
Members of the public are welcome to an Open Night at the SAAO in Cape Town, starting at 20:00. The evening consists of:
- A talk entitled Is there somebody out there? Exoplanets
and the search for extraterrestrial life, by Rudi Kuhn (UCT/SAAO) in the Auditorium. - Viewing the sky through various telescopes, weather permitting.
